Start Enjoying Photography With These Great Tips!

Use your shutter speeds creatively. Using fast shutter speeds is common practice to prevent blur, but think about how you can use slow shutter speeds to intentionally blur your photos for creative reasons. For example, consider the cyclist as he rushes by you. The result will be that the cyclist is sharp and clear, while the background is horizontally streaked, creating a speeding effect.

The purpose of your camera’s flash is to eliminate shadows that will form on subjects when you’re shooting pictures under the sun. If you take photos without a flash, your pictures can look too dark.

Try framing all of your shots. Not a picture frame, of course, but one that occurs naturally within the shot. When taking a picture, if you focus hard enough on surrounding elements, you can use it to make “natural frames” around your subject matter. This is a great way to practice composition.

Do your own photo editing. There are lots of different editing software programs you can use. Try different software and choose one that allows you to edit your pictures easily and in a variety of ways. Make sure to find a program that you can easily learn and use too!

You need to be familiar with your tools in order to work efficiently. Be sure you study your own camera very well.

Do you need pictures of subjects that are soaked or misted with rain? You can create this effect yourself with a spray bottle that you can mist over the subject to give the appearance of “rain.”

When shooting a picture, judge the surroundings and choose the right aperture, shutter speed and ISO. These three features determine the exposure of your picture. Unless you are seeking a certain mood, try not to take under- or over-exposed photos. Fiddle with the features on your camera to learn how they work.

When traveling, start taking pictures as soon as you leave. You’ll not only have plenty of opportunities to take photographs once you get to your destination, but don’t forget to take pictures of the trip as a whole as well. Try documenting your journey. For example, an airport has many wonderful photo opportunities.

As the previous tips stated, taking photographs is a great way to preserve memories. Perseverance pays off, as does practicing and the determination to improve, but the end results are worth the time invested in becoming a better photographer.
